Who can help but worry about an elderly parent getting through the day alone? What if Dad falls? Is Mom remembering her medication?

More and more Malaysians over the age of 70 live alone in their own homes. If your loved ones are affected by health complications such as arthritis, diabetes, and fuzzy vision, it doen't mean that it's time for a nursing home, nor does it mean that dad requires surveillance 24/7. You wouldn't want to, and he probably doesn't want it, either!

Homes can be made safe for our elderly moms and dads through rearranging of furniture, minor renovations, and other simple home improvements! Whether your parent lives alone, is freshly discharged from the hospital, or is recovering from post-surgery, knowing what risks to look out for and the proper solutions to avoid them can allow dad and mom to live worry-free in the comfort of their own home.

For nurses and caretakers on home visits that are often asked about solutions and suggestions on home improvement by patients expecting to be discharged and their families, come learn from our experts on how to conduct a home hazard assessment.

TRAINER
Dr. Muhammad Hibatullah Bin Romli -Senior Lecturer, University Putra Malaysia

Home Hazard Assessment training is to upskill our care workers in ensuring homes are safe for seniors by lowering risks of falls through professional assessment.

Home Hazard Assessments are done to access the frequency of hazards at home. These hazards are directly correlated with increased risk of falls in older Malaysians. Studies also show that 80% of falls in older Malaysian occur at home. We use home hazard assessments that are professionally rated and clinical proven to be feasible and reliable when used as a clinical tool for the Malaysian context.

A home safety assessment is an evaluation of your home to identify and eliminate potential hazards. The home safety assessment may also include home improvement recommendations to help you navigate your environment more securely, such as installing handrails in the bathroom or making sure your house has adequate lighting.

Certification for the Home Hazard Assessment Training provides an opportunity for Healthcare Professionals to offer additional Home Hazard Assessment services in addition to their current services as a means of additional income.

Certified participants (Healthcare Professional) will also be qualified for paid job opportunities as home assessment agents for iElder.asia.

Class will commence when a minimum of 12 participants have signed up.
