According to FreeMalaysiatoday, there are at least 1,300 unlicensed old folks’ homes in the country.
Malaysia is an aging nation, with population statistics showing over 7% of Malaysians are aged 65 and over as of 2021.
According to New Straits Times, Malaysia will be an aged society in 2044 (with 14 per cent of its population aged 65 and over), and a super-aged society in 2056 (with 20 per cent of its population aged 65 and over).
For the senior care center, it is regulated by Ministry of Women, family and Community development (Act 506). As of 2019 statistic, there are 360 license senior care center.
