H-CARE AGEING & GERIATRIC REHABILITATION Course

H-CARE AGEING & GERIATRIC REHABILITATION Course

On 14 February 2025, iElder.Asia had the privilege of sharing insights on Adaptive Equipment for Feeding during the AGEING & GERIATRIC REHABILITATION Course at the Pusat Kajian Penuaan Sihat & Kesejahteraan (H-CARE), Faculty of Health Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Suzana Shahar and Dr. Nurul Huda for their gracious invitation and the opportunity to collaborate.

Our session focused on innovative tools designed to enhance mealtime independence and dignity for seniors. Key highlights included:

  • Ergonomic Utensils: Specially crafted with comfortable grips to assist those with limited hand dexterity.

  • Stabilizing Tableware: Plates and bowls equipped with non-slip bases to prevent spills and accidents.

  • Adaptive Cups: Designed to control liquid flow, reducing the risk of choking and enhancing hydration.

  • Precise Thick-N INSTANT: An innovative liquid thickener that enables individuals with dysphagia to safely consume their favorite beverages. This product offers a quick and easy solution to achieve the desired consistency without altering taste.

We emphasized the importance of personalized solutions, ensuring that each tool aligns with the unique needs of the individual.

In addition to feeding aids, we explored bathroom assistance devices such as the Etac Clean Shower Commode Chair. This award-winning chair is designed to provide comfort and safety during hygiene routines. Its features include adjustable height, removable armrests, and a slim design that fits easily over most toilets, making it ideal for both home and care facility settings.

This collaboration aims to raise awareness about the pivotal role of adaptive equipment in improving seniors' quality of life, thereby promoting Ageing in Place. By integrating these tools into daily routines, we empower our elderly community to maintain autonomy and enjoy their meals with confidence.

A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Dr. Suzana Shahar, Dr. Nurul Huda, and the entire H-CARE team for their dedication to advancing geriatric care. We look forward to future endeavors that champion the well-being of our ageing population.

Together, let's make ageing a journey of empowerment and fulfillment.
