Standard Wheelchairs

The standard wheelchair is the most common wheelchair used. Standard wheelchairs usually either have fixed or detachable armrest and footplates. A user would need to manually propel the wheelchair by pushing one's hands against the pushrims. This type of wheelchair also has handles at the back of the seat so it can be pushed by another person. A standard wheelchair is easy to maintain, lightweight, and the least expensive to buy.

Sport wheelchairs designed for active users may or may not include footplates for disability sports. A sport wheelchair is lightweight, durable and stable; these features enable users to achieve better speed and agility compared to a standard wheelchair. This wheelchair has two larger than usual rear wheels and samller lead wheel configured for both aerodynamic effects as well as for propulsion efficiency.
