[October 2023 Event] KSI The Malaysian Health and Wellness Summit 2023 on 25 October 2023
Our co-Founder, Olivia, had the privilege of being a speaker at the Malaysian Health and Wellness Summit on October 25th, 2023. The conference focused on "Navigating the Challenges of Population Ageing towards a Resilient and Inclusive Society for Older Persons". It was a tremendous honor to contribute our perspectives alongside esteemed individuals such as Dato' Dr. Tunku Muzafar Shah, Head of Geriatrians at MOH, Dr. Jillian of IMM Carehub, Mr. Rashidi Yahaya of Seterra, Dr. Molly Cheah of GEMS, Mr. Bryan Lim of Subang Jaya Medical Centre, and Dr. May Tan of My Precious Home. The event was skillfully moderated by Dato Peter Ng of UCSI Hospital.
The elderly population is projected to rise to 12% of the total population by 2025. The increasing elderly population poses social and financial challenges and puts immense strain on the health system due to marked shift toward chronic non-communicable diseases. There is a need to the medical and socio-economic problems of this vulnerable group and promote healthy ageing.
This session will discuss on Maintenance of healthy function in the elderly and the importance of detecting severe disease at an early stage. It will also discuss the challenges and opportunities of:
- Home Care, Palliative Care and Integrated Care - what are the recent developments in the respective areas of care (differences and overlaps)
- Smart ageing and other means to better support the elderly to be more actively involved and take greater charge of their own health?
- Where are we headed and the viability of making home care the thrust of aged care?
- Financial and Social Implications of Ageing
iElder is known for the supply of geriatric beds, furniture, aid and surveillance tools. Moving forward, what trends do you see when it comes to equipment and how can we better care for our aged?
Hello, I'm Olivia from iElder, a medical supply company specializing in elderly care. We're observing a growing trend in the integration of IoT and AI in senior care. The desire for aging in place is paramount for our elderly parents. To ensure their safety and enhance their quality of life, it's imperative to conduct a thorough hazard assessment and make necessary modifications to their living environment as we've witnessed numerous instances of elderly parents experiencing falls at home.
We've witnessed instances where parents return home after a fall, but their children may feel ill-equipped to provide proper care due to a lack of knowledge. This sometimes leads to the difficult decision of transitioning them to a nursing home. We firmly believe in the principle of prevention being superior to cure. Conducting assessments can preemptively address potential issues.
Rather than transitioning from a hospital bed to their residence, many senior parents express a preference for a wooden home care bed equipped with hospital-grade features for use in their own homes. Additionally, it's essential to incorporate lifestyle components into the setup. Read more
Regarding IoT, the installation of an elderly monitoring system is pivotal in maintaining their safety at home while respecting their privacy. Our system includes an SOS panic button that can alert up to eight pre-registered contacts. In cases where pressing the button isn't possible, motion sensors strategically placed in their home can also trigger alerts.
We've contributed over ten assistive technologies to the Gerontechnology Lab at Monash University for research on indoor mobility. The results underscore the importance of utilizing such technology to help individuals regain a sense of normalcy in their lives.
Expect iElder to continuously introduce more AI, IoT, robotics, and innovative products in the future. We're dedicated to advancing the field of elderly care.
