One of the highlights was the introduction of Latera Neo, an innovative nursing bed equipped with an advanced lateral tilt function.

Repositioning residents, assisting with transfers, changing bedsheets and providing daily hygiene care can place significant physical strain on caregivers.

Latera Neo is designed to address these challenges by allowing the bed to tilt laterally by up to 15 degrees.

According to information presented during the meeting, its potential benefits include:

• Up to 67% less effort required when turning residents.
• Up to 63% less effort required when getting out of bed.
• Approximately 20% less strain on the lumbar spine during resident handling.
• A low bed position of 31 cm to support fall prevention.
• A safe working load of 250 kg.

The lateral tilt function also assists caregivers with repositioning, resident hygiene, bed-making and skin assessments.

These figures were presented by the manufacturer and may vary depending on clinical conditions and care practices.

Why does this matter for Malaysian nursing homes?

Caregiver shortages and physically demanding care routines are major operational challenges. Solutions that reduce manual handling could help improve working conditions while supporting residents’ comfort and mobility.

2. CareTurner: Supporting Safer Resident Repositioning

Another important innovation presented was CareTurner, designed to support the repositioning of residents who have limited mobility.

For bedridden residents, regular repositioning is an important part of care management. However, frequent manual turning can be physically demanding for caregivers and disruptive to residents.

CareTurner offers an assisted repositioning solution intended to:

• Reduce the physical effort associated with turning residents.
• Support more consistent repositioning routines.
• Improve resident comfort during care.
• Reduce the need for strenuous manual handling.

The meeting also featured practical sessions on integrating CareTurner with Latera Neo and improving moving and handling techniques.

This solution is particularly relevant for residents who retain some mobility and can participate actively in their transfers, subject to professional assessment.

Rather than making every resident dependent on caregivers, appropriately selected mobility equipment can encourage independence and participation in daily activities.

4. Movita SC and Carisma SC: Functionality, Safety and Comfort

The meeting also showcased product updates to Wi-Bo’s Movita SC and Carisma SC nursing bed ranges.

The features presented included:

• A new 4Safe basic side rail system, with additional side rail options depending on the model.
• A safe working load of 205 kg for Movita SC and 225 kg for Carisma SC.
• Electric height adjustment from 25 cm to 80 cm.
• An automatic comfort seating position.
• A 16 cm double-retraction mechanism.

These features are designed to support the varying needs of residents and care providers while improving accessibility and everyday care.

The presentations demonstrated how thoughtful bed design can help create a more comfortable care environment without overlooking operational efficiency.

Beyond product introductions, the three-day meeting provided valuable opportunities to exchange knowledge with international partners.

Topics included product developments, after-sales support, equipment rental business models and opportunities in Asian healthcare markets.
